Money is hard to come by at the moment. Jobs are disappearing and many are turning to drilling jobs. The money is great! The work is hard! The benefits are enormous. But before you start applying, just a have a look at a few of the drilling jobs available at the moment.
If you’re wanting drilling jobs on offshore rigs, then your entry level job would be that of cleaner/painter. This is one of a few entry level drilling jobs. This is an all weather position and you’d have to lend a hand anywhere you’re asked. It’s a great way to get your foot in the door of offshore drilling jobs.
Another entry level drilling job would be that of lease hand or roustabout. In performing your duties you’ll also be involved in the painting and cleaning but you’d also be expected to do some serious heavy labour. If heavy equipment is needing moving, the roustabout will be called upon to get it sorted. The roustabout position is on both offshore and onshore oil rigs. You’d be the one who has to fetch and carry supplies for the rig. So there is a lot of driving of various machines involved.
Saving the best for last. If you secure the position of roustabout out of the drilling jobs, then you have a great chance of promotion as you’ll be reporting directly to the Driller. Don’t forget with each promotion comes a fat increase in wages, so work hard, get those promotions and your wages will go sky high!
