With entry level oil and gas jobs being more and more difficult to find, the focus has moved to the more skilled area of the oil industry.
The two places you can find oil gas jobs is at:
www.rigzone.com
www.oilcareers.com
The only problem with looking at these sites is that you are probably only going to be one of 100’s if not thousands of applicants from around the world. So what do you do if you are trying to oil and gas jobs in today’s’ economic climate?
Well, you can approach your search for oil and gas jobs the same way that a professional recruiter does. Having been in the recruitment industry, I can tell you that we didn’t wait around for someone to phone us with an oil job vacancy. Nope, we got on the phone ourselves and canvassed every company we could get hold of in the industry that we were specialising in. There where certain techniques and telephone tricks that we used which also helped. But what it boiled down to, was that we where on the phone for sometimes 3 to 4 hours a day finding vacancies that needed to be filled. And we did not take no for an answer.
When someone said they weren’t hiring, we immediately asked them for the names and contact details of their colleagues or professional contacts in the industry. That way, after speaking to half a dozen HR officers or senior managers, we where in a position to keep phoning for a week or more because of all the leads we where getting.
When we came across someone who was hiring, we then spent a lot of time listening to what exactly it was that they where looking for. We then made sure that when we presented a CV or resume to that client, we hit every single important issue raised when we got the job specification.
So that’s what you need to do. Get on the phone and start contacting as many companies as you can in the area of the oil and gas industry that you want to work in.
It is currently very competitive, so to find oil and gas jobs is going to be tough, but not impossible. Oil & gas industry jobs are no different to any other, you need to make contact with people in a position to help you get what you want.
I’m going to help you by putting together a list of companies around the world who are in the oil and gas industry. it will be your jobs to locate the ones you want to work for and then speak to someone in that company who can help you get a job. If they don’t have an oil and gas industry job for you then you will need to get them to tell you who they know in the industry who may be able to help you.
