Oil | Gas Jobs Are Getting Hard To Find But…

Posted by John

More and more guys are struggling to find oil, gas jobs so I’ve decided to trawl the forums to find out the latest news and try to get it to you ASAP. The entry-level oil rig jobs on offshore oil rigs look like they are pretty much impossible to get right now. There have been lots of retrenchments and closures affecting the offshore oil rig jobs market.

If you’re a bit low on cash, I picked up this suggestion about alternatives to offshore oil jobs.

Overseas jobs in Iraq/Afghanistan that are very lucrative pay about $80,000 a year in Iraq or Afghanistan for entry level positions, with more for trades. Of this, $91,000 is tax-free and you get housing, food and transportation provided. You’ll come home with pretty much all of it saved because you won’t have anywhere to spend it.

There are quite a few overseas contractors hiring at the moment. KBR is one of the larger military contractors. The number of jobs at their website has increased quite a bit recently.

So if you are keen on an alternative to oil & gas jobs then this might just be what you have been waiting for.

There’s more than one search button on the webpage. Make sure you click on the right one.

Many of these are entry-level positions, which have similar requirements to what you would expect for entry level offshore oil rig jobs. So don’t be put off when you see job descriptions like “Foreman”, “Technician”, “Specialist” etc. The human resources department over at KBR seems to love to exaggerate and make the jobs appear more important than they really are. They will still consider your application for these jobs with little or no experience.

Here’s an example – “Billeting Technician” . That’s just a fancy name for the equivalent of a “Hotel Desk Clerk” at a military base. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to do that job. No experience is really required. You will just be showing newly arrived employees to their housing and have them sign for a key. And you will probably have to hand them a list of House Rules, that’s a lot less stress than what you would get in offshore oil rig jobs.

For the most part, you either attend to the front desk checking people in or supervise a third-world staff of low paid workers from Southern Asia and Africa. They clean the rooms and re-stock supplies for the bathrooms etc. You will not actually have to do any of the janitorial work yourself. This is a glorified supervisor job that you are just not going to get in any oil & gas industry jobs.

So there you have it, get along to KBR and apply right now for one of their high paying jobs. I’m busy putting together a list of oil & gas jobs and companies right now, so within the next day or so you can come back and have a source list of companies in the oil industry where you can apply for jobs.
